Whereas, on July 10, 2018, a gas main explosion at the intersection of N. Main
6St. and S. Bristol St. in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin took the life of Cory Barr; and

Whereas, Cory Barr left behind his wife Abigail and his twin daughters; and

Whereas, Cory Barr was a captain with the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire
9Department; and

Whereas, Cory Barr and his wife co-owned The Barr House, a local bar that was
11leveled in the explosion; and

Whereas, Cory Barr was at The Barr House when reports came in of a gas leak
13and immediately began to help people evacuate the area, and continued to help clear
14local streets and other businesses, saving countless lives before the explosion
15occurred; and

1Whereas, Cory Barr sustained life-threatening injuries when the gas leak
2exploded, eventually dying from his wounds; and

Whereas, the Sun Prairie Police Department, Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire
4Department, and the Sun Prairie Emergency Medical Services leapt into action after
5the initial report, evacuating the area and ensuring the safety of innumerable
6residents of Sun Prairie; and

Whereas, the members of the Sun Prairie Police Department, Sun Prairie
8Volunteer Fire Department, and the Sun Prairie Emergency Medical Services
9selflessly put themselves in harm's way and made the safety and security of locals
10their top priority; now, therefore, be it

assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
12legislature hereby commends the sacrifices made by Cory Barr, the Sun Prairie
13Police Department, the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department, and the Sun Prairie
14Emergency Medical Services and recognizes their work as well as the lives they
15saved on the one-year anniversary of Cory Barr's death.
