Whereas, the first children's hospital in Madison opened its doors 100 years
4ago, in 1920; and

Whereas, the American Family Children's Hospital was originally located at
61225 Linden Drive on the University of Wisconsin campus and was named the Mary
7Cornelia Bradley Hospital for the Study of Children's Diseases, in memory of a
8six-year-old girl who died from measles complications in 1916; and

Whereas, between 1930 and 2007, children were hospitalized at three
10subsequent locations on the UW–Madison campus: the “old” University Hospital,
11the Wisconsin Orthopedic Hospital (later named UW Children's Hospital), and the
12“new” University Hospital; and

Whereas, demand for a more spacious, state-of-the-art pediatric hospital
14culminated in the construction of the world-class American Family Children's
1Hospital, which opened in 2007 thanks to a generous initial naming gift from
2American Family Insurance; and

Whereas, new treatments and screenings for life-altering diseases such as
4childhood cancer, cystic fibrosis, childhood asthma, heart disease, obesity, premature
5birth, and others have been developed here, thanks to research initiatives led by
6prominent faculty members from the UW Department of Pediatrics; and

U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked American Family
8Children's Hospital among the nation's best in multiple specialties; now, therefore,

senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature, in
11recognition of one hundred years of service and caring for the children and families
12of Wisconsin, the United States, and beyond, does hereby proclaim the year 2020 as
13the 100th Anniversary of the American Family Children's Hospital.
