EXECUTIVE ORDER #178
Relating to a Special Election for the Eighth Senate District
WHEREAS, State Senator Alberta Darling resigned as Senator for the Eighth Senate District on December 1, 2022.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, TONY EVERS, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, pursuant to article IV, section 14, of the Wisconsin Constitution and Section 8.50 (4)(d) of the Wisconsin Statutes, order that a special election be held on April 4, 2023, to fill the vacancy in the Eighth Senate District, as created by Johnson v. Wisconsin Elections Commission, 2022 WI 19, and whose boundaries are set out in Section 4.009 (8) of the Wisconsin Statutes. A copy of the boundary descriptions may be obtained from the Elections Commission or the Legislative Reference Bureau. The term of office for the Eighth Senate District will expire on the first Monday in January, 2025. If a primary is necessary, it will be held on February 21, 2023. Circulation of nomination papers for candidates may begin today, December 2, 2022 and nomination papers must be filed no later than 5:00:00 p.m. on January 3, 2023, in the office of the Elections Commission, 203 West Washington Avenue, Second Floor, Madison, Wisconsin. These elections shall be held, conducted, canvased, and returned in accordance with law.
