AB263,1,1
1An Act relating to: discontinuance of certain special group plates.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, certain special group motor vehicle registration plates
issued by the Department of Transportation are discontinued if, at certain intervals,
DOT receives fewer than 500 applications for registration renewal for vehicles for
which these special plates were issued. Current law requires DOT to assess the
sufficiency of the number of applications every three years. Special group plates
affected by this requirement are plates expressing support for Midwest Athletes
Against Childhood Cancer, Boy Scouts of America, Whitetails Unlimited, Wisconsin
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the nursing profession.
Under this bill, DOT may not discontinue a special plate for failure to maintain
a sufficient number of applications if the number of applications for the plate was less
than 500 in 2020, but greater than 500 in 2021.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
