AB393-ASA3,1,2 An Act relating to: studying the potential benefits and drawbacks of human consumption of kratom.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB393-ASA3,1 Section 1 . Nonstatutory provisions.

AB393-ASA3,2,2 (1) Kratom research. The Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System shall ensure that a study is conducted at the University of Wisconsin-Madison regarding the potential benefits and drawbacks of human consumption of the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa plant and shall, on the first day of the 18th month beginning after the effective date of this subsection, submit to the governor and to the appropriate standing committees of the legislature under s. 13.172 (3) a report prepared by the researchers conducting the study detailing the results of the study and any recommendations for legislation regarding human consumption of the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa plant based on the results of the study.

AB393-ASA3,2 Section 2. Fiscal changes.

AB393-ASA3,2,7 (1) Kratom research funding. In the schedule under s. 20.005 (3) for the appropriation to the University of Wisconsin System under s. 20.285 (1) (a), the dollar amount for fiscal year 2024-25 is increased by $100,000 for the administration of the kratom research under Section 1 (1 ) of this act.
