Notice to crime victims upon parole or release to extended supervision
Before a prisoner is released on parole or extended supervision, the parole commission or DOC must notify certain individuals of the pending release, including the victim of the crime or, if the victim died as a result of the crime, an adult member of the victim's family or, if the victim is younger than 18 years old, the victim's parent or legal guardian. This bill provides that, if the victim died as a result of the crime, the parole commission or DOC must also notify any member of the victim's family who was younger than 18 years old at the time the crime was committed but is now 18 years old or older.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:
Section
1. 304.06 (1) (c) 3. of the statutes is amended to read:
304.06 (1) (c) 3. The victim of the crime committed by the inmate or, if the victim died as a result of the crime, an adult member of the victim's family
and any member of the victim's family who was younger than 18 years old at the time the crime was committed but is now 18 years old or older or, if the victim is younger than 18 years old, the victim's parent or legal guardian, upon submission of a card under par. (f) requesting notification.

2. 304.063 (2) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:
304.063 (2) (a) The victim of the crime committed by the prisoner or, if the victim died as a result of the crime, an adult member of the victim's family and any member of the victim's family who was younger than 18 years old at the time the crime was committed but is now 18 years old or older or, if the victim is younger than 18 years old, the victim's parent or legal guardian.
