AJR18,1,1 Relating to: observing Wednesday, March 15, 2023, as Equal Pay Day in Wisconsin.

AJR18,1,4 Whereas, Equal Pay Day occurs each year on the day that symbolizes how far into the new year women must work full time to earn the same wages that their male counterparts earned the previous year; and

AJR18,1,7 Whereas, since World War II, when Wisconsin women worked in factories and shipyards, Wisconsin women remain among the most likely in the United States to be in the paid workforce, consistently ranking among the top 10 of states; and

AJR18,1,9 Whereas, in 2021, about 63 percent of Wisconsin women age 16 years and older were in the civilian labor force; and

AJR18,1,12 Whereas, 2023 marks 104 years since the passage of the 19th Amendment by Congress on June 4, 1919, which was one of the first steps in providing equal rights to women; and

AJR18,1,15 Whereas, working Wisconsin women contribute to a profoundly better quality of life in our state by significantly raising the incomes of their families and their communities; and

AJR18,2,3 Whereas, Wisconsin narrowed its pay equity gap between 2004, when women earned on average 29 cents less per dollar than men, and 2021, when women earned on average 17 cents less per dollar; and

AJR18,2,6 Whereas, in 2021, Asian women earned 21 cents less per dollar than Asian men, Hispanic women earned 12 cents less than Hispanic men, and Black women earned 6 cents less than Black men; and

AJR18,2,8 Whereas, continued progress in narrowing the pay equity gap in Wisconsin will help to maintain Wisconsin families' high quality of life; now, therefore, be it

AJR18,2,11 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature recognizes Wednesday, March 15, 2023, as Equal Pay Day for all working women in Wisconsin.
