SB35,1,2 1An Act to create 341.08 (2) (aj) and 343.177 of the statutes; relating to:
2emergency contact records maintained by the Department of Transportation.

This bill requires the Department of Transportation to inquire whether an
applicant for an operator's license or vehicle registration wants to provide specified
emergency contact information to DOT. If an applicant provides emergency contact
information, DOT must record that information in DOT's file for the applicant. DOT
must provide a method for a law enforcement agency that identifies a person to
electronically request and automatically receive the emergency contact information
recorded in the person's file.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB35,1 3Section 1. 341.08 (2) (aj) of the statutes is created to read:
SB35,2,34 341.08 (2) (aj) A place for the applicant to provide emergency contact
5information, which shall include the emergency contact's full name, date of birth,
6residential address, phone number, and relationship to the applicant, and a

1statement that a form on which the applicant may provide emergency contact
2information is available on the department's Internet site and at local examining
3centers.
SB35,2 4Section 2. 343.177 of the statutes is created to read:
SB35,2,17 5343.177 Emergency contact information. As part of every application for
6an original, duplicate, reinstated, reissued, or renewal license or endorsement, the
7department shall inquire whether the applicant wants to provide emergency contact
8information, which shall include the emergency contact's full name, date of birth,
9residential address, phone number, and relationship to the applicant. The
10department shall make available on its Internet site and at each local examining
11center a separate form on which an applicant may provide emergency contact
12information. If an applicant provides emergency contact information under this
13section or under s. 341.08 (2) (aj), the department shall record the information in its
14file for the person. The department shall provide a method for a law enforcement
15agency, as defined in s. 165.83 (1) (b), that reasonably identifies a person to
16electronically request and automatically receive the information recorded in the
17person's file under this section.
