AJR58,1,42Whereas, the state of Wisconsin has a thriving community of older Americans
3who deserve recognition for their contributions and sacrifices to ensure a better life
4for future generations; and
AJR58,1,65Whereas, more than 1.45 million Wisconsin residents are ages 60 or older,
6comprising 25 percent of the states total population; and
AJR58,1,97Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature is committed to helping all
8individuals live longer, healthier lives in the communities of their choice for as long
9as possible; and
AJR58,1,1310Whereas, since 1965, the Older Americans Act has supported various
11initiatives that help older adults remain healthy and independent, including Meals
12on Wheels, congregate meals at senior centers, assisted transportation, in-home
13care, and respite care; and
AJR58,2,214Whereas, these vital services complement existing medical and health care

1systems, help prevent hospital admissions and readmissions, and support some of
2lifes most basic functions, such as bathing and preparing healthy meals; and
AJR58,2,53Whereas, these programs also support family caregivers, address issues of
4exploitation, neglect, and abuse of older adults, and adapt services to the needs of
5Native American elders; and
AJR58,2,86Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature recognizes the value of community
7engagement and service in helping older adults remain healthy and active while
8giving back to others; and
AJR58,2,139Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature encourages opportunities to enrich
10the lives of individuals of all ages by promoting and engaging in activity, wellness,
11and social inclusion; emphasizing home and community-based services that
12support independent living; and ensuring that citizens of all ages benefit from the
13contributions and experience of older adults; now, therefore be it

15shall be designated as Older Americans Month in Wisconsin.
