Notice of Hearing

The Department of Natural Resources announces that it will hold a public hearing on:

— WA-17-21(E) – An emergency rule affecting chs. NR 500 and 520 related to disposal of material dredged from the Great Lakes.

— WA-18-21 – A permanent rule affecting chs. NR 500 and 520 related to disposal of material dredged from the Great Lakes.

In accordance with s. 227.17, Wis. Stats., the DNR is seeking public comment and feedback on WA-17-21(E) and WA-18-21 at the time and virtual location shown below.

Rule Information

2021 Wisconsin Act 93, effective July 1, 2022, established requirements and exemptions in s. 289.43 (8) (d), Wis. Stats., relating to materials dredged from the Great Lakes by municipalities and counties and directed the department to promulgate emergency and permanent rules. The proposed rules incorporate requirements in Act 93, provide sediment sampling and analysis requirements, and outline additional information to guide streamlined applications for dredged material disposal facility proposals.

Appearances at the Hearing and Submittal of Written Comments

The public has the opportunity to testify at the hearing. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged if you plan to provide spoken comments during the hearing. Comments on the proposed rule must be received on or before March 21, 2023. Written comments may be submitted by U.S. mail, E-mail, or through the internet and will have the same weight and effect as oral statements presented at the public hearing.
