1999 WISCONSIN ACT 158
An Act to repeal 167.31 (4) (a) 1.; and to create 167.31 (1) (em) and 167.31 (4) (am) of the statutes; relating to: an exception for peace officers to prohibitions relating to the transportation of firearms in motor vehicles.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

Section
1. 167.31 (1) (em) of the statutes is created to read:
167.31 (1) (em) "Peace officer" has the meaning given in s. 939.22 (22).

2. 167.31 (4) (a) 1. of the statutes is repealed.

3. 167.31 (4) (am) of the statutes is created to read:
167.31 (4) (am) 1. Subsections (2) (a), (c) and (d) and (3) (a) and (b) do not apply to a peace officer who, in the line of duty, loads or discharges a firearm in, on or from a vehicle, motorboat or aircraft or discharges a firearm from or across a highway or within 50 feet of the center of a roadway.
2. Subsection (2) (b) does not apply to a peace officer who places, possesses or transports a firearm in or on a vehicle, motorboat or aircraft while in the line of duty.
3. Subsection (2) (b) does not apply to a person employed as a peace officer who places, possesses or transports a firearm in or on a vehicle while traveling in the vehicle from his or her residence to his or her place of employment as a peace officer.

4.
Initial applicability.
(1) This act first applies to the placement, possession or transportation of a firearm that occurs on the effective date of this subsection.
