(5) (a)
Age restriction. No person under 12 years of age may operate an
5all-terrain vehicle unless he or she is operating the all-terrain vehicle for an
6agricultural purpose and he or she is under the supervision of a person over 18 years
7of age or unless he or she is operating a small all-terrain vehicle on an all-terrain
8vehicle trail
designated by the department, on an all-terrain vehicle route, on public
9property on which the operation of all-terrain vehicles is permitted or on private
10property on which the property owner has given permission to operate all-terrain
11vehicles and he or she is accompanied by his or her parent
or guardian or by a person
12who is at least 21 years of age. No person who is under 12 years of age may operate
1an all-terrain vehicle
which is an implement of husbandry that is not a small
2all-terrain vehicle on a roadway
or on a shoulder of a roadway under any
3circumstances. No person who is under 12 years of age may operate
an a small 4all-terrain vehicle on a roadway
under the authorization provided under sub. (4) (d)
56. under any circumstances or on a shoulder of a roadway except to cross the roadway
6in the manner required under sub. (4) (d) 1. if the crossing is part of an all-terrain
7vehicle trail or all-terrain vehicle route and the person is accompanied by his or her
8parent or guardian or by a person who is at least 21 years of age. No person who is
9under 12 years of age may rent or lease an all-terrain vehicle. For purposes of this
10paragraph, supervision does not require that the person under 12 years of age be
11subject to continuous direction or control by the person over 18 years of age.
