ASSEMBLY AMENDMENT 5, TO 1999 ASSEMBLY BILL 234

AB234-AA5,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

AB234-AA5,1,3 1. Page 1, line 3: delete the material beginning with ", court" and ending with "appropriation".

AB234-AA5,1,5 2. Page 2, line 1: delete the material beginning with that line and ending with page 3, line 3 and substitute:

AB234-AA5,1,6 " Section 1b. 11.50 (3) (a) 2. of the statutes is amended to read:

AB234-AA5,1,12 11.50 (3) (a) 2. If an election for justice is scheduled in the following year, 8% of the fund the state treasurer shall be placed place in a supreme court account an amount equal to the lesser of the amount required to make payment of the maximum grant permitted under sub. (9) to 2 candidates for the office of justice or the balance in the fund. From this account, an equal amount shall be disbursed to the campaign depository account of each eligible candidate by the state treasurer.

AB234-AA5, s. 1c Section 1c. 11.50 (3) (b) of the statutes is amended to read:

AB234-AA5,2,9 11.50 (3) (b) If a vacancy occurs in the office of state superintendent or justice after August 15 in any year and an election is scheduled to fill the vacancy at the spring election in the following year, the state treasurer shall transfer an amount not exceeding 8% of the moneys transferred to the fund on the preceding August 15 equal to the lesser of the amount specified in par. (a) or the balance in the fund to the account for the office in which the vacancy occurs, such . If the balance in the fund exceeds the amount to be transferred, the moneys to be transferred shall be drawn from any account within the accounts created under sub. (4) in the amount or amounts specified by the board.".
