ASSEMBLY AMENDMENT 2, TO 1999 ASSEMBLY JOINT RESOLUTION 92

AJR92-AA2,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the joint resolution as follows:

AJR92-AA2,1,2 1. Page 1, line 9: delete "now, therefore, be it" and substitute "and".

AJR92-AA2,1,3 2. Page 1, line 9: after that line insert:

AJR92-AA2,1,8 "Whereas, if a coordinated electoral schedule among the states does not come to pass, it would enhance voter participation in this state, strengthen the political process in this state and protect the rights of this state to hold the presidential preference primary in this state on the date of the Spring primary; now, therefore, be it".

AJR92-AA2,1,9 3. Page 2, line 10: delete the period and substitute "; and, be it further".

AJR92-AA2,1,10 4. Page 2, line 10: after that line insert:

AJR92-AA2,1,12 "Resolved, That the legislature understands that time is of the essence in establishing such a system; and, be it further

AJR92-AA2,2,8 Resolved, That the legislature agrees in principle with the concept that, if at least 25 other states fail to adopt or support such a system by January 1, 2002, legislation should be enacted to change the date of the presidential preference primary in this state to the date of the Spring primary and to create a procedure under which, if all states bordering on this state other than Iowa will hold concurrent presidential primaries, the state elections board will promulgate rules to change the date of the presidential preference primary in this state to coincide with the date of the presidential primary in those states.".
