7101.652 Notice regarding construction on or near bodies of water. (1) 8A city, village, town, county, or the department may not issue a building permit for
9a dwelling, or for a garage, shed, or other building that is an accessory building to
10the dwelling, to any person without giving the person the written notice specified in
11sub. (2) at the time the building permit is issued.

12(2) Each notice shall contain the language "WARNING!! YOU ARE
13RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLYING WITH MUNICIPAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL
1LAW CONCERNING CONSTRUCTION NEAR OR ON LAKES, STREAMS, OR
2WETLANDS. WETLANDS THAT ARE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH OPEN WATER
3MAY BE DIFFICULT TO DETECT OR DELINEATE WITHOUT EXPERT ADVICE.
4FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH MUNICIPAL, STATE, OR FEDERAL LAW MAY
5RESULT IN SUBSTANTIAL RESTORATION COSTS, FORFEITURES, FINES,
6AND POTENTIAL REMOVAL OR MODIFICATION OF CONSTRUCTION THAT
7VIOLATES THE LAW. FOR INFORMATION ABOUT COMPLYING WITH STATE
8AND FEDERAL LAW VISIT THE INTERNET WEB SITE OF THE DEPARTMENT
9OF NATURAL RESOURCES OR CONTACT A SERVICE CENTER OF THE
10DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES.

11(3) The notice set forth in sub. (2) shall contain the electronic Web site address
12that gives the recipient of the notice direct contact with that Web site.

13(4) A municipality or the department in issuing a notice under this subsection
14shall require that the applicant for the building permit sign a statement
15acknowledging that the person has received the notice.".
