ASSEMBLY SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT 1,
TO ASSEMBLY BILL 248

AB248-ASA1,1,5 1An Act to create 36.11 (22m), 38.12 (11m) and 120.12 (26) of the statutes;
2relating to: incorporating financial literacy in public schools' curriculum and
3requiring that information on financial literacy be provided to newly entering
4students at the University of Wisconsin System and the technical colleges
5during the students' first semester.

This substitute amendment directs each school board to incorporate model
academic standards for financial literacy into the curriculum in grades kindergarten
to 12.
The substitute amendment also requires that each institution and campus
within the University of Wisconsin System, and each technical college district board,
provide to newly entering students information on financial literacy within the
students' first semester.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1Section 1. 36.11 (22m) of the statutes is created to read:
AB248-ASA1,2,42 36.11 (22m) Financial literacy. The board shall direct each institution and
3college campus to provide to newly entering students information on financial
4literacy within the students' first semester.
AB248-ASA1,2 5Section 2. 38.12 (11m) of the statutes is created to read:
AB248-ASA1,2,86 38.12 (11m) Financial literacy. The district board shall provide to newly
7entering students information on financial literacy within the students' first
8semester.
AB248-ASA1,3 9Section 3. 120.12 (26) of the statutes is created to read:
AB248-ASA1,2,1110 120.12 (26) Financial literacy. Incorporate model academic standards for
11financial literacy into the curriculum in grades kindergarten to 12.
AB248-ASA1,4 12Section 4. Effective date.
AB248-ASA1,2,1413 (1) This act takes effect on the first day of the 6th month beginning after
14publication.
