(1) Purpose. It is declared to be the policy of the legislature to acquire,
5improve, preserve
, maintain, provide funding for, and administer a system of areas
6to be known as the state parks of Wisconsin. The purpose of the state parks is to
7provide areas for public recreation and for public education in conservation and
8nature study. An area may qualify as a state park by reason of its scenery, its plants
9and wildlife, or its historical, archaeological
, or geological interest. The department
10shall be responsible for the selection of a balanced system of state park areas and for
11the acquisition, development
, and administration of the state parks. No admission
12charge shall be made to any state park, except as provided in subs. (7) to (9).

GPR state parks and state recreation areas positions. In the schedule
17under section 20.005 (3) of the statutes for the appropriation to the department of
18natural resources under section 20.370 (1) (ea) of the statutes, as affected by the acts
19of 2015, the dollar amount is increased by $4,668,800 for the second fiscal year of the
20fiscal biennium in which this subsection takes effect to increase the authorized FTE
21positions for the department of natural resources by 44.68 GPR state parks and state
22recreation areas positions.".
