1115.337 Grants for school safety. (1) Definitions. In this section
2“independent charter school” means a charter school established under s. 118.40 (2r)
3or (2x).
AB843-SSA2-AA3,2,8 4(2) Grants for school safety. (a) From the appropriation under s. 20.255 (2)
5(dv), the department shall award grants for expenditures related to improving school
6safety. The department shall accept applications for a grant under this subsection
7from school boards, operators of independent charter schools, governing bodies of
8private schools, and tribal schools.
AB843-SSA2-AA3,2,179 (b) The department, in consultation with the department of justice, shall
10develop a plan for use in awarding grants under this subsection. The department
11shall include in the plan a description of what types of expenditures are eligible to
12be funded by grant proceeds. Eligible expenditures shall include expenditures to
13comply with the model practices created in s. 165.28 (1); expenditures for training
14under s. 165.28 (3); expenditures for safety-related upgrades to school buildings,
15equipment, and facilities; and expenditures necessary to comply with s. 118.07 (4)
16(cf). Eligible expenditures may not include promotional materials. Notwithstanding
17s. 227.10 (1), the plan need not be promulgated as rules under ch. 227.
AB843-SSA2-AA3,2,19 18(3) Application requirements. An application submitted for a grant under sub.
19(2) shall include all of the following:
AB843-SSA2-AA3,2,2020 (a) A school safety plan.
AB843-SSA2-AA3,2,2221 (b) Blueprints of each school building and facility or, if blueprints were already
22submitted, a certification that the blueprints submitted are current.
AB843-SSA2-AA3,2,2323 (c) A proposed plan of expenditure of the grant moneys.

1(4) Report. The department shall submit an annual report to the
2cochairpersons of the joint committee on finance providing an account of the grants
3awarded under sub. (2) and the expenditures made with the grant moneys.”.
