1Section 1. 20.005 (3) (schedule) of the statutes: at the appropriate place, insert

SB44-SSA1,2 3Section 2 . 20.235 (1) (kg) of the statutes is created to read:
SB44-SSA1,2,94 20.235 (1) (kg) Apprenticeship grants for tribal college students. The amounts
5in the schedule for grants to tribal college students under s. 39.381. All moneys
6transferred from the appropriation account under s. 20.505 (8) (hm) 13t. shall be
7credited to this appropriation account. Notwithstanding s. 20.001 (3) (a), the
8unencumbered balance on June 30 of each year shall revert to the appropriation
9account under s. 20.505 (8) (hm).
SB44-SSA1,3 10Section 3 . 20.292 (1) (fc) of the statutes is created to read:

138.04 (34) Student apprenticeship grants. (a) In this subsection:
SB44-SSA1,3,22 1. “Apprenticeship program” has the meaning given in s. 106.001 (4).
SB44-SSA1,3,43 2. “Poverty line" means the nonfarm federal poverty line for the continental
4United States, as defined by the federal department of labor under 42 USC 9902 (2).
SB44-SSA1,3,115 (b) From the appropriation under s. 20.292 (1) (fc), the board shall award grants
6to students enrolled in technical colleges who have undertaken an apprenticeship
7program in conjunction with their course of instruction at the technical college.
8Grants may be awarded only to pay for the students' actual materials expenses, such
9as the cost of tools, equipment, and clothing, associated with the apprenticeship
10program. Grants may not exceed $1,500 per student or the student's actual
11materials expenses, whichever is less.
SB44-SSA1,3,1312 (c) The board may not award a grant to a student under this subsection unless
13the student's application submitted to the board includes all of the following:
SB44-SSA1,3,1514 1. A recommendation form signed by the student's apprenticeship employer or
15another person in the trades.
SB44-SSA1,3,1816 2. A copy of current pay stubs for the student and, if applicable, the student's
17spouse that demonstrate that the student's household income is below 300 percent
18of the poverty line.
SB44-SSA1,3,2019 3. A statement of how the award would help the student complete the student's
20apprenticeship program.
SB44-SSA1,3,2121 4. A statement signed by the student certifying all of the following:
SB44-SSA1,3,2322 a. That the student will be enrolled in the apprenticeship program in the
23following semester.

1b. That the student will use the grant award to pay for materials expenses, such
2as the cost of tools, equipment, and clothing, that are directly related to the
3apprenticeship program.
SB44-SSA1,4,64 (d) The board may not award a grant to a student under this subsection unless
5the board has verified the student's enrollment in the apprenticeship program in the
6semester in which the grant award is made.
SB44-SSA1,4,87 (e) The board may not award grants under this subsection totaling more than
8$100,000 in any academic year.
SB44-SSA1,4,109 (f) The board may structure the grants awarded under this subsection to create
10incentives for completing apprenticeship programs.
SB44-SSA1,6 11Section 6 . 39.381 of the statutes is created to read:
SB44-SSA1,4,13 1239.381 Apprenticeship grants for tribal college students. (1) In this

SB44-SSA1,4,1414 (a) “Apprenticeship program” has the meaning given in s. 106.001 (4).
