Senator George, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in memory of his father Horace Raymond George, a long time attorney in Milwaukee.

Funeral services will be held Friday for Horace Raymond George, a Milwaukee attorney and father of Senator Gary R. George (D-Milwaukee).
George, who had struggled against diabetes for decades, died Friday at St. Michael Hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage suffered in early January. He was 71.
George was born in Chicago and raised in Louisiana, coming of age during the Huey P. Long era in Long's hometown, Winfield. He loved to play basketball and he had a passion for reading, which he supported by working at a local drugstore to gain access to newspapers.
He studied economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he also attended school, graduating in 1950. He served as a judge advocated during the Korean War, and eventually settled in Milwaukee with his wife, Audrey.
George worked nights for the American Motor Co. while using his days to establish his practice. Over the years, he worked as a field attorney for the Department of Veterans Affairs, was active in local politics and was a special lecturer at the University of Wisconsin Law School. The school presented George with a recognition award in 1984.
A member of the Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas and District of Columbia bars, George was also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court
He was active in the Knights of Columbus, and the St. Thomas Moor Legal Society, and he served on Tax Appeals Commission, as well as on the boards of St. Anthony's Hospital and of the Wisconsin Center, formerly called MECCA. He was presented with a Positive Achiever Award by WNOV-AM's Carter-McGee Report in 1994.
George was keenly interested in Egyptian and African culture and history, and considered a journey he took to Egypt with his daughter in 1991 one of the highlights of his life.
Besides Audrey and Gary George, he is survived by sons Gregory and Mark, of Milwaukee; Michael,, of Madison; and a daughter, Janice, of Milwaukee.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schramka Funeral Homes, 7841 W. Appleton Ave., with services beginning at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church.
