Speaker Jensen introduced Ruth Doyle, a former member of the Wisconsin State Assembly who introduced a resolution in 1951 condemning the man who was then the sergeant-at-arms for refusing to hire a woman as a messenger. Assembly Joint Resolution 12, passed today by the Assembly, commends Ruth Doyle's championship of women's rights and her accomplishments. She is also the mother of Wisconsin's Attorney General James Doyle, who addressed the members from the rostrum on behalf of his mother.
