A587 Announcements
Representative Hahn asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in honor of Ellen Roche, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday, February 8, 1998. Granted.
Representative Seratti asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in honor of Paul McCraw from Florence, a "Foster Senior" Citizen who is recovering from surgery. Granted.
Representative Baumgart asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in honor of his father, Herbert Baumgart, who passed away on Wednesday, February 11, at the age of 82.
"As you well know, each family member is unusually special. So was Dad! He was born in a farming area of Manitowoc County. He received a high school diploma, not common during that period - plowed the fields by horse and plow - went through a great depression - married my Mom, a lovely lady who was left alone at a very early age to be shifted from relative to relative, and they raised seven children.
He worked for the Polar Ware Company in Sheboygan for 39 years and, during 25 of those years, he worked another job for 4 hours a day.
One of the things that has provided me with a lasting memory was my Dad's special passion for voting. He told his family that "whether rich or poor, whatever religion, whether in a majority or minority, voting made each person equal." I can't remember a time he or my Mom ever missed a vote prior to entering a nursing home. He was indeed special".
Granted.
Representative Morris-Tatum asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in honor of Nathan Smith, an African American man whom a portion of Highway 16 is named after, and who came to Wisconsin in 1864 from Tennessee. Granted.
Representative Jeskewitz asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in honor of Jason LeSage from Germantown, who was observing the legislature as her shadow for the day. Granted.
Representative Coggs asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in honor of George Poage, a Wisconsinite from La Crosse who attended UW-Madison and in 1904, thirty years before Jesse Owens, became the first black to participate in the Olympic Games, winning two bronze medals. Granted.
