To the Honorable, the Assembly:
According to Wisconsin School Law 121.87 and in accordance with Wis. Stats. 13.172, the Milwaukee Board of School Directors is required to submit the enclosed reports. School law 121.87 states "......annually by May 1 the board of school directors of the school district operating under ch. 119 shall submit a report to the legislature under s.13.172(2) that specifies the number, percentage, race, sex, grade and attendance area of pupils transferred outside their attendance area without written consent under s. 121.85 (6)(am)."
Enclosed you will find four (4) reports that meet the requirements stated above. The total number of intradistrict students bused under the Chapter 220 designation for the 2000-2001 school year is 20,241. Of that number, 4,552 or 22.5% either did not return a consent form (4,365) or indicated no consent (187).
Report #1 details by grade level the ethnic code for the 4,552 students. The ethnic code is as follows: 1= American Indian, 2= African American, 3= Asian, 4=Hispanic, 5=Caucasian, 6= other.
Report #2 lists the ethnic code by elementary school attendance area. A list of school site numbers is included.
Report #3 lists by grade level the gender for the 4,552 students.
Report #4 lists the gender of students by attendance area.
The enclosed reports meet the requirements as stated in Wisconsin Law 121.87. Further information can be provided on request.
