Oath of Office
On Tuesday, January 17, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser, Jr. administered the oath of office to Scott Newcomer of the Thirty third Assembly District in a ceremony held in the State Capitol in the city of Madison. Representative Newcomer addressed the members from the rostrum, accompanied by his wife, Julie, and daughters Alicia, Nicole and Taylor.

Joint Convention
The houses went into joint convention.
Senate President Lasee presiding.
Senator Lasee recognized the presence of Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton, Attorney General Peggy Lautenschlager, State Treasurer Jack Voight and Superintendent of Public Instruction Elizabeth Burmaster; Justices Jon P. Wilcox, Ann Walsh Bradley, N. Patrick Crooks, David T. Prosser, Jr., Patience Drake Roggensack, and Louis B. Butler, Jr., of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Governor Jim Doyle took his place at the rostrum to deliver his state of the state address.

Representative Kessler asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in memory of Tom Parker, a former Milwaukee County Labor Council President, who passed away on January 1. Granted.
Representative Albers asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in memory of Bob Wollersheim of Wollersheim Winery in Prairie du Sac, who passed away last month. He left behind a legacy of good will, good wine, good friends and a great family. Granted.
Representative Toles asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for his contributions to this country. Granted.
Representative Wood asked unanimous consent that the Assembly adjourn in honor of African American Students. Granted.
