Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
S425 Senator Jauch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Murphy Oil, Incorporated for their scholarship program, the El Dorado Promise. This is a $50 million dollar scholarship program in El Dorado, Arkansas sponsored by Murphy Oil that is offered to every high school graduate. Murphy Oil operates a refinery in Superior, Wisconsin, but the corporate headquarters is located in El Dorado. This company has made an awe-inspiring commitment to assure that every high school graduate who wishes to pursue higher education from El Dorado High School will have the opportunity to do so. The Senate should specifically honor Claiborne Deming, President and CEO of Murphy Oil and Murphy Oil Incorporated for setting the example of how to be generous with resources to assure that every child has a chance for a better future through higher education. This $50 million investment is an extraordinary investment that is on par with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Warren Buffett. Another great example of this type of philanthropy is the recent $40 million gift to the Wisconsin Covenant program. These contributions are setting a very high standard in sharing economic wealth for the betterment of society. The El Dorado Promise is just one example of corporations and individuals reaching deeper into their resources to assure that all children have a chance for a brighter future.
