Extraordinary Session
The committee on Senate Organization reports:
In accordance with Joint Rule 81(2) and Senate Rule 93, it is moved that the Senate Committee on Organization authorize the Legislature to meet in Extraordinary session at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, solely for the consideration of Senate Bill 232. It is further moved that this proposal be exempt from the public hearing requirement pursuant to Senate Rule 18(1m).

Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
S201 Senator Jauch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Lori Schneider and Jim Ramsdell of Bayfield, and Lori's father Neal Schneider of Janesville. On May 23rd, Lori became the first person with Multiple Sclerosis to summit Mt. Everest. In addition, her summit of Mt. Everest completes her decades' long quest to become the first person with MS to summit each of the seven highest peaks on the globe and show the world that the disease has not kept her from achieving her dreams. Lori has received enormous support from father Neal Schneider, who turned 77 years old this past Sunday. In fact, he was there when the dream began, as the two summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro on his 61st birthday in 1993. Lori was able to be there to celebrate his birthday this year as the dream came full circle. Jim Ramsdell, Lori's long time partner, has also provided Lori a great deal of support and encouragement during this monumental task. A strong environmental advocate and talented sculptor of stunning wooden replicas of wild animals, Jim has always understand the importance to Lori of pursuing her dreams, and she has provided him an equal amount of support pursuing his. Today Lori, Jim and Neal will ride together in a City of Bayfield parade honoring her and her family. They have all provided the inspiration to make this magnificent feat possible.
Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Jerry Covelli, who passed away this week at 95 years of age. Mr. Covelli was a long time political activist in Kenosha.
Senator Miller, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Dr. Linda Farley, M.D. a passionate crusader for health care reform, who passed away on this morning, June 9, 2009. Dr. Farley spent her entire adult life delivering medical services to poor and underserved people and advocating for quality health care for all. Her work is the inspiration for the Wisconsin Health Security Act which would provide health care insurance for all Wisconsin residents. She will be missed.
Senator Miller, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Mr. David Wood, who, as head of the Wisconsin Computer Take- Back Campaign, fought for producer responsibility for electronic recycling in Wisconsin. His work resulted in the first introduction of electronic recycling legislation in Wisconsin three sessions ago. Unfortunately Mr. Wood died as a young man before his work came to fruition. Today, with Senate passage of 2009 SB 107, Senator Miller asks that the Senate adjourn in Mr. Wood's honor.
Senator Kanavas, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his mother-in-law, Nancy Madison Hayes, who is celebrating her 80th birthday.
Senator Kanavas, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Kelsey Nelson, an intern in the Senator's office, who is celebrating her 20th birthday.
Senator Kanavas, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of area students who were successful at last weekend's WIAA State Track and Field Meet, which was held at University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Top finishers at the girls' meet include Brookfield Central High School, who placed second, and Arrowhead High School, who placed ninth. Chidera Obasih, a sophomore at Brookfield Central, was one of the top female athletes at this year's meet, setting a state record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.85 seconds. Top finishers at the boys' meet include Arrowhead High School, who placed first, Menomonee Falls High School; second, Waukesha North High School; fifth, and Brookfield East High School, who placed sixth at the state meet. Further congratulations go out to boys' first place finishers: Senior Tim Hucke of Arrowhead High School, 800 meter run; Junior DJ Tate of Waukesha North High School, 300 meter hurdles; Senior Collin Taylor of Brookfield East High School, high jump; Arrowhead high School's 4x200 meter relay team: Seniors Chris Pendergast, Evan Resimius and Jake Weber as well as Junior Casey Panawash-Bielinski; Arrowhead High School's 4x400 meter relay team: Seniors Tim Hucke and Evan Resimius as well Juniors Casey Panawash-Bielinski and Tyler Zeman.
Senator Hansen, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his granddaughter Alyssa Bicoy, who graduated from Bay-Port High School on Saturday.
Senator Kapanke, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his parents' 74th wedding anniversary.
Senator Kedzie, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his son, Ryan Kedzie, who recently graduated with honors from Western Technical College in LaCrosse, and his son Sean Kedzie, who graduates from Elkhorn Area High School this Thursday.
