Department of Natural Resources
November 15, 2011
The Honorable, The Legislature:
As part of the 2011-2013 Biennial Budget, the Department is required to report to the Legislature regarding the total number of acres of land that the Department plans to acquire for any purpose specified in s. 23.09(2)(d). Since this report is required every two years (due November 15 in each odd-numbered year), the projected acreage indicated below is for the period from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2013. Further the Department's reported acreage projections are for fee title land acquisitions and do not include acreage estimates for conservation easements where the land remains in private ownerships.
S607 The acreages listed below are based on projected Knowles Nelson Stewardship funding available for the reporting period and from an extensive ranking process we have undergone to ensure only the most important lands are acquired for conservation and outdoor recreation. It is important to note that these are estimates and the actual acreage acquired will vary for each program based on the outcome of negotiations during the reporting period and other factors that might affect final results.
This report is submitted pursuant to s. 23.0913(2), Stats. If there are any questions about this report, please call Richard Steffes at (608) 266-0201.
