Senator Shilling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in memory of Lena, 12, and Trinity, 15, Bartels, of Wauzeka, who passed away recently as a result of a house fire.

Martha was a tremendous community leader, and her tavern, Toran’s, was a gathering spot for Milwaukee’s finest political leaders. Her leadership in the party extended to official positions like Northside Unit Chair and CD Char, but what was most important that she inspired a generation of leaders. As a small business owner, community activist, political leader, and friend to the Democratic Party, we honor her legacy and with her family peace at this difficult time.

Jeanetta was born in New Mexico on January 21, 1926 and was married for 65 years. Jeanetta leaves behind a son, two daughters, a host of grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. She stood for the infinite commitment to the lasting legacy forever standing for the enrichment and vitality of her family.
Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the life of Albert Dunlap, Jr. He was born in Blytheville, Arkansas, on October 18th, 1938 to Albert, SR. and Rosetta Dunlap as the oldest of their 5 children. Albert served mankind during his life in almost every way from activism, semiprofessional baseball player, treasured son, and loved brother. Albert was a man that stood for everything and fell for nothing, his fight being reflected in his marches with Father Frank Groppi. Albert has fulfilled his charge, met his Maker, as well as reaped commitment to a lasting legacy forever standing for the enrichment and vitality of his family, his community, and all who were fortunate enough to cross his path on his journey of service and love.
Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the life Ernest Caraway. He was a family man and a tailor. He was a sharp man who had a reputation as a hard worker. Chances are if you wore a uniform to work, he stitched it. He was preceded I ndeath by his son, Ernest Caraway Jr. and his eldest daughter, Gail Caraway.

Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Ferne Yangyeitie Caulker, who retired recently. She was the head of UW-Milwaukee’s Dance Department. Ferne is a native of Sierra Leone, West Africa. She founded the Ko-Thi company in 1969 after returning from a research project. She is the Founder and Artistic Executive Director of Milwaukee’s internationally renowded Ko-Thi Dance Company. Created in 1969, Ko-Thi is considered one of Wisconsin’s cultural treasures. In 2001 Milwaukee’s Professional Dimensions honored her with their prestigious Sacagawea Award which is given to two outstanding women of achievement. She has been teaching at UWM since 1971, where she created the University’s courses on African dance and history and has served on numerous Universities committees. Ferne is retiring after 35 years of service to UWM.
Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Jimmy Johnstone, who dedicated his career to enriching and improving the lives of multiple generations of students for more than 46 years. Jimmy is a caring resourceful and innovative trend-setter with ah “can-do” attitude who nurtures a student-focused environment. His commitment to service is characterized best as he helped students choose and enroll in courses, find tutoring programs, provided emotional support, and navigation through the UWM system. Jimmy has in all ways throughout his career embodied the best principles of service and compassion by sacrificing his time and energy to make a sincere difference in the lives of countless individuals.
Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Val Taylor, who retired from the Public Defender’s office after 28 years. Val served in the Army and graduated from UW Law School. Something not everyone knows about her is she is a self-professed “foodie.”
