Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Bill Gerrard. Bill Gerrard died recently at the age of 92. He was quite a fellow. He was head of the Democratic Party, and was a friend of Governor Tommy Thompson. He had a lot of friends in and around the Capitol. Senator Wirch remembers a story about Bill. They used to have lunch around here, and it was right when the caucus scandals were going on. There were all kinds of investigations going on and Bill said one day, “I want to thank the good Lord at this time for giving me such a bad memory.”
Senator Shilling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the country’s longest serving legislator, Senator Fred Risser, who is turning 90.
Senator Erpenbach, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of his daughter, Amy Hope Erpenbach and her 22nd birthday.
Senator Miller, with unanimous consent, asked that the
Senate adjourn in honor of Jill Runde. Jill is a middle school guidance counselor at Indian Mound Middle School in McFarland. On Saturday, April 29, she was awarded a Kohl Education Foundation Fellowship Award. And today, she was named the Wisconsin Middle School Teacher of the Year. Jill is the wife of Al Runde, a Program Supervisor at the Legislative Fiscal Bureau.
Senator Hansen, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Marsha Loritz. Her mother went missing just over 4 years ago. There are nearly 180 missing persons in Wisconsin. She has been responsible for an event every year. Senator Hansen was proud to present a state flag flown over the Capitol in her honor.
Senator LeMahieu, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of a few of his constituents, who were up in the gallery. They are visiting the Capitol today, learning about the judicial system. They are freedom loving homeschoolers, who spent the entire day meeting with different legislators.
Senator Marklein, with unanimous consent, asked that the
Senate adjourn in honor of Tony Ruch of Platteville. On Thursday, April, 6, 2017, 10 year old Tony saved his grandmother’s life when their home started on fire around 5 a.m. in Platteville. Tony heard his grandmother calling for help and he ran across the fire in bare feet to reach her. Tony is a hero. His bravery and selflessness saved his grandmother’s life.
Senator Ringhand, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of her newest granddaughter, Ruby Jane Dunphy, who was born in April 27, 2017.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of his father, Dr. Herluf Wanggaard, retired Lieutenant Colonel, on his 100th birthday and the 100th Anniversary of the 32nd Division Red Arrow Division. Senator Wanggaard’s father was part of the 32nd Division and Commanded a critical parts barge serving in the South Pacific theatre campaign of New Guinea- Finschhafen, Hollandia, Biak Island, Buna; Philippines- Leyte, Zamboanga, Saber, Luzon (Manilla) and Mindanao. The 32nd Division has a proud history of serving our country. Thank you and all those who continue to serve and protect us today.
Senator Carpenter, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of his constituent Frank Gonzáles. Frank was a longtime advocate, resident, and family man. He served the south side of Milwaukee for 17 years as a commissioner on the Social Development Commission, and also served on the boards of the Bruce-Guadalupe Community School and the Walker’s Point Development Corp. Senator Carpenter would also like to honor him for his dedicated efforts for many years in organizing our near south side 4th of July parade.
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Allison Renk and her parents John and Brenda Renk of Menomonee Falls. Allison just turned 8 years old on Friday, April 28, and was born with Ci du Chat syndrome. The Renk family will be one of three local families with children who have Cri du Chat that will be hosting the 5P Minus Society’s National Conference in August this year in Milwaukee.
