Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Vukmir, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of her son, First Lieutenant Nicholas Vukmir, in the United States Army. He is an infantry officer and 2 days ago, he started the long journey of becoming an Army Ranger.
Senator Harsdorf, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Coach Sadie Schradle and the Clayton Girls’ Volleyball team on winning the WIAA Division 4 State Championship. The Clayton Bears defeated the Lourdes Academy Knights in four sets. Clayton’s formidable attack was led by juniors Alison Leslie, who had 22 kills, and Selena Levendoski, who had 21 kills and 19 digs. Jaedyn Bussewitz added an impressive 10 kills and 15 digs for the Bears. Clayton entered the tournament ranked number 1 with only 2 losses on their record. Their road to the finals went through the four time reigning state champ, Newman Catholic, with a 3 to 2 win in the semifinals. Clayton won their third state title without any seniors on the roster and will likely be a tough team to beat next year.

Senator Harsdorf, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Thanksgiving. Let us all remember all that they have to be thankful for. We have so much to be thankful for our family, friends, our faith and our freedoms. Senator Harsdorf thinks we should all think of the honor it is to serve in this great body. It is a special honor and yet we could not serve our constituents without our staff, so she’d like to thank her staff. All of our staff should be recognized for the contributions they make as well as our agencies, the Fiscal Bureau, the Reference Bureau, the Legislative Council, and of course our Senate Chief Clerk and Sergeant’s staffs.

The Blue Dukes completed a perfect 25-0 record with a win over Oregon High School by a score of 6-1. Whitefish Bay is also the number 2 team in the nation for boys soccer. Congratulations to Whitefish Bay coach Rob Dubinski and all of the Blue Dukes.

Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of her son, Isaiah Taylor, who will be turning 18 years old. Isaiah is her only child who is independent, loving, hardworking and brilliant.
Senator Carpenter, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the 100th anniversary of Milwaukee Policemen’s death in the 1917 Police Station Bombing. Prior to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack, the single deadliest event in national law enforcement history occurred in Milwaukee on November 24, 1917, when nine officers and two citizens were killed in a bomb blast. The bomb exploded inside the assembly of the Central Police Station. The police were not the intended target. The 20-pound bomb was discovered in a passageway between the Italian Evangelical Church located at 355 North Van Buren Street and the neighboring mission house by the 10-year old daughter of the church cleaning lady on Saturday morning. In the evening, two young men, including, a member of the church, brought the device to the police station. The station keeper took the device from the young men and brought it to the lieutenant’s office and then into the assembly. A number of detectives who had just answered to roll call were in the room. Several of them were examining the device when it exploded. Of the ten officers who were in the police station assembly room at the time of the explosion, eight were killed and two were injured. The bomb was thought to have been put at the church by sympathizers of anarchists who were arrested in connection with a riot in Bay View earlier that month. That case was never solved.
