AB183,1,3 1An Act to create 36.27 (3m) of the statutes; relating to: exempting from tuition
2at the University of Wisconsin System a resident undergraduate who is the
3child of a slain fire fighter or law enforcement officer.

This bill provides free tuition at the University of Wisconsin System to any
resident undergraduate student who is enrolled in a bachelor's program and who is
the child of a fire fighter or law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty
when the child was under the age of 21 until completion of a sufficient number of
credits to be awarded a bachelor's degree in the student's major field of study, but not
more than 5 consecutive years.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB183, s. 1 4Section 1. 36.27 (3m) of the statutes is created to read:
AB183,1,55 36.27 (3m) Fee remissions. (a) In this subsection:
AB183,1,86 1. "Fire fighter" means any person employed by this state or any political
7subdivision of this state as a member or officer of a fire department whose duties
8include fire fighting or fire fighting training.
AB183,1,99 2. "Law enforcement officer" has the meaning given in s. 165.85 (2) (c).

1(b) The board shall grant full remission of fees to any resident undergraduate
2student who is enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and who is the child of a fire
3fighter or law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty when the child
4was under the age of 21 until completion of a sufficient number of credits to be
5awarded a bachelor's degree in the student's major field of study, but not more than
65 consecutive years.
