AJR85,1,32 Whereas, Frank Remington was born on February 10, 1922, in Schenectady,
3New York, and died on February 9, 1996, in Madison; and
AJR85,1,54 Whereas, Mr. Remington served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War
5II and won the Distinguished Flying Cross; and
AJR85,1,86 Whereas, he earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of
7Wisconsin-Madison, finishing first in his law school class and serving as editor in
8chief of the Wisconsin Law Review; and
AJR85,1,129 Whereas, he taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School for 46
10years and attained national stature as an authority on criminal law and procedure,
11as evidenced by his many publications and his appointment to prestigious positions;
12and
AJR85,1,1613 Whereas, he worked on the committees that drafted the Federal Rules of
14Criminal Procedure and the American Law Institute's Model Penal Code and, for the
15American Bar Association, he directed a study of criminal justice administration and
16a project to develop standards for police officers; and

1Whereas, his public service also benefited this state, because he helped revise
2the Wisconsin Criminal Code and served on many state committees; and
AJR85,2,63 Whereas, in addition to his research and teaching, he served on the university's
4athletic board for many years, was the university's faculty representative to the Big
5Ten Conference and the faculty representative to the Western Collegiate Hockey
6Association; and
AJR85,2,107 Whereas, for his accomplishments he received many awards, including the
8Distinguished University Achievement Aware, the Wisconsin Alumni Association
9Distinguished Alumni Award and the Wisconsin Law Foundation Charles L.
10Goldberg Distinguished Service Award; now, therefore, be it
AJR85,2,15 11Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That: the members of
12the Wisconsin legislature commend Frank Remington's many years of scholarly
13achievement, devoted public service and exemplification of the "Wisconsin Idea";
14express their sorrow at his death; and extend their condolences to his family, friends
15and former colleagues; and, be it further
AJR85,2,19 16Resolved, That: the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
17resolution to Mr. Remington's wife, Susan Stone, and to his children, Michael
18Remington, James Remington, Thomas Remington, Patrick Remington, Ann
19Holdahl and Frank Remington.
