Whereas, Henry Dorman was born on September 24, 1916, in Racine, and died
3on November 9, 1998, in Racine; and

Whereas, Mr. Dorman graduated from William Horlick High School in Racine,
5received a Ph.B. in American Institutions from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
6in 1940, and earned a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1947;

Whereas, during World War II, he attended Officer Candidate School at Yale
9University in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a communications
10officer; and

Whereas, Mr. Dorman practiced law in Racine from 1947 until his retirement
12in 1991; and

he was a member of various legal committees and assisted in the
14creation of legal aid offices in the Racine County courthouse; and

1Whereas, Mr. Dorman served on the Racine County Board from 1956 to 1958;

Whereas, he served in the senate from 1965 to 1978; and

Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature his abilities were recognized by
5an appointment to the joint committee on finance from 1967 to 1978, and served as
6cochair of this prestigious budget-making committee during the 1975 and 1977
7sessions; and

Whereas,
Mr. Dorman was considered one of the senate's most influential
9leaders; now, therefore, be it

10Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
11Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Henry Dorman
12contributed to this state, express their sorrow at his death and extend their
13condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

14Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
15resolution to Mr. Dorman's wife, Jean; to his children, Robin, Wendy, Lynn and Heidi;
16to his sister, Ida Schmidt; and to his brother, Philip Dorman.
