AB190,1,2 1An Act to create 29.318 of the statutes; relating to: prohibiting the hunting of
2the bird that is the symbol of peace for this state.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under rules promulgated by the department of natural resources (DNR), there
is an open season for the hunting of mourning doves. The mourning dove represents
the symbol of peace for the state of Wisconsin.
This bill prohibits DNR from authorizing an open season for the hunting of
mourning doves and imposes a specific ban against the hunting of these birds.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB190, s. 1 3Section 1. 29.318 of the statutes is created to read:
AB190,1,6 429.318 Hunting doves. (1) Notwithstanding s. 29.001 (42), in this section
5"hunt" means to shoot, shoot at, take, capture, or kill, or pursue for the purpose of
6shooting, shooting at, taking, capturing, or killing.
AB190,2,3
1(2) The department may not establish or authorize an open season for the
2hunting of the bird that is the symbol of peace for this state, as specified in s. 1.10
3(3) (a), and no person may hunt these birds at any time.
