1An Act to amend 340.01 (2g) of the statutes;
relating to: modifying the
2definition of all-terrain vehicle.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law defines an "all-terrain vehicle" as an engine-driven device with
a width of not more than 48 inches and a net weight of 650 pounds or less that is
designed to travel on at least three low-pressure tires and that is equipped with a
seat designed to be straddled by the vehicle operator. A person who operates an
all-terrain vehicle on a highway is exempted from some traffic laws that apply to
other vehicle types, and no demerit points are assessed for traffic violations
committed while operating an all-terrain vehicle.
This bill increases the maximum allowable net weight of an all-terrain vehicle
to 800 pounds.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

which that has a width of 48 inches or less,
1which that is equipped with a seat designed to be straddled by the operator

2which that is designed to travel on 3 or more low-pressure tires. A low-pressure tire
3is a tire which has a minimum width of 6 inches,
which
that is designed to be mounted
4on a rim with a maximum diameter of 12 inches
, and
which that is designed to be
5inflated with an operating pressure not to exceed 6 pounds per square inch as
6recommended by the manufacturer.
