AB588,1,2 1An Act relating to: funding for the enforcement of laws regulating snowmobiles
2and the operation of snowmobiles and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the department of natural resources receives funding for
conservation warden positions relating to enforcing the laws that regulate
snowmobiles and the operation of snowmobiles from Indian gaming receipts that are
deposited in the general fund and appropriated to the department of administration
and from the snowmobile account of the conservation fund. The snowmobile account
mainly consists of snowmobile fuel tax revenues and revenues from snowmobile
registration fees. Almost all of these revenues are used for snowmobile trail aids and
snowmobile law enforcement and safety training. This bill transfers the funding
source for two conservation wardens from the snowmobile account in the
conservation fund to the revenues from Indian gaming.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
