2advertising signs owned by nonprofit organizations.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the department of transportation (DOT) may promulgate
a rule requiring the payment of annual permit fees for outdoor advertising signs
visible from the main-traveled way of interstate or federal-aid highways.
This bill prohibits DOT from requiring annual permit fees for off-premises
outdoor advertising signs owned by nonprofit organizations.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB707, s. 1 3Section 1. 84.30 (10m) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB707,2,34 84.30 (10m) Annual permit fee requirement. The department may
5promulgate a rule requiring persons specified in the rule to pay annual permit fees
6for signs. If the department establishes an annual permit fee under this subsection,
7failure to pay the fee within 2 months after the date on which payment is due is

1evidence that the sign has been abandoned for the purposes of s. TRANS 201.10 (2)
2(f), Wis. Adm. Code. This subsection does not apply to an off-premises advertising
3sign that is owned by a nonprofit organization.
