AB787,1,3 1An Act to amend 28.05 (2), 28.11 (6) (b) 1. and 28.22 of the statutes; relating
2to:
the advertising of a sale of timber that has an estimated value of $3,000 or
3more and that comes from state, county, or community forests.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a timber sale that has an estimated value of $3,000 or more
is subject to certain advertising requirements if the timber comes from a state forest,
a county forest, or a forest under the jurisdiction of a city, village, town, or school
district. Under current law, a classified advertisement announcing the sale must be
placed twice in a newspaper having general circulation in the county in which the
timber is located. Under the bill, the advertisement must be a display advertisement
that is two or more columns wide in size.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB787, s. 1 4Section 1. 28.05 (2) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB787,2,45 28.05 (2) Procedure. Sales of cut products or stumpage having an estimated
6value of $3,000 or more shall be by public sale after 2 publications of a classified

1display advertisement announcing the sale that is 2 or more columns wide and that
2is placed
in a newspaper having general circulation in the county in which the timber
3to be sold is located. Sales with an estimated value of $3,000 or more requires
4approval by the secretary.
AB787, s. 2 5Section 2. 28.11 (6) (b) 1. of the statutes is amended to read:
AB787,2,126 28.11 (6) (b) 1. Any timber sale with an estimated value of $3,000 or more shall
7be by sealed bid or public sale after publication of a classified display advertisement
8announcing the sale that is 2 or more columns wide and that is placed in a newspaper
9having general circulation in the county in which the timber to be sold is located. Any
10timber sale with an estimated value below $3,000 may be made without prior
11advertising. Any timber sale with an estimated value of $3,000 or more requires
12approval of the secretary.
AB787, s. 3 13Section 3. 28.22 of the statutes is amended to read:
AB787,2,19 1428.22 Timber sales; community forests. Any timber sale from a community
15forest shall be based on the scale, measure, or count of the cut products. Any timber
16sale with an estimated value of $3,000 or more shall be by public sale after 2
17publications of a classified display advertisement announcing the sale that is 2 or
18more columns wide and that is placed
in a newspaper having general circulation in
19the county in which the timber to be sold is located.

AB787,2,2221 (1) This act first applies to sales of timber or stumpage for which
22advertisements are placed on the effective date of this subsection.
