1An Act to amend 150.31 (7); and
to create 150.31 (6m) of the statutes;
relating
2to: increasing the statewide nursing home bed limit in an instance in which
3current nursing home licensed beds are transferred.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law specifies a maximum number of licensed nursing home beds
approvable statewide. However, the department of health and family services
(DHFS) is authorized to adjust these limits in specific instances, including to permit
the permanent and complete closure of a hospital and its partial conversion to a
nursing home.
This bill requires DHFS to increase the statewide nursing home bed limit by
the number of approved beds of a nursing home whose owner transfers the beds to
another location, if the transfer results in the loss of a nursing home within 15 miles
of a city with a specified population in a county with a specified population.

1. 150.31 (6m) of the statutes is created to read:

(6m) The department shall increase the statewide bed limit specified
2in sub. (1) by the number of approved beds of a nursing home whose owner transfers
3the beds to another location if the transfer results in the loss of a nursing home within
415 miles of a city with a population of 4,474 in 1990 in a county with a population of
530,236 in 1990.
