AJR106,1,32 Whereas, Reino A. Perala was born on August 28, 1915, in Maple, Wisconsin,
3and died on February 25, 2002, in Superior, Wisconsin; and
AJR106,1,64 Whereas, Mr. Perala graduated from the Wisconsin School for the Blind and
5attended the University of Wisconsin from 1938 to 1943, where he earned both his
6B.A. degree in English and L.L.B. degree from the law school; and
AJR106,1,87 Whereas, Mr. Perala practiced law in Superior for more than 50 years, retiring
8in 1994; and
AJR106,1,99 Whereas, on February 2, 1945, he was united in marriage to Elvie Olson; and
AJR106,1,1010 Whereas, Reino and Elvie recently celebrated 57 years of marriage; and
AJR106,1,1211 Whereas, Mr. Perala was elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1952 and served
12from 1953 until 1969; and
AJR106,1,1413 Whereas, during his tenure in the assembly, Mr. Perala was one of 2 visually
14impaired legislators; and

1Whereas, at the commencement of Mr. Perala's first session, he was befriended
2by Representative John T. Kostuck, another visually impaired legislator; and
AJR106,2,43 Whereas, Mr. Perala served as chairperson of the Committee on Taxation while
4serving in the assembly; and
AJR106,2,65 Whereas, Mr. Perala loved to fish from his cabin on the Brule River and was a
6charter member of the Brule River Sportsmen's Club; and
AJR106,2,87 Whereas, Mr. Perala was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 80,
8and the Superior Elks Lodge 403; now, therefore, be it
AJR106,2,12 9Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
10Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Reino A. Perala
11contributed to this state, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their
12condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR106,2,15 13Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
14resolution to Mr. Perala's wife, Elvie, and his 2 sons, Ronald (Julie) Perala and Randy
15(Sue) Perala.
