AJR3,1,32 Whereas, Edgar E. Lien was born on August 3, 1936, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin,
3and died on October 28, 2000, in DeForest; and
AJR3,1,54 Whereas, Mr. Lien graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School in 1954,
5and earned a B.A. in 1958 and an LL.B. in 1960 from Valparaiso University; and
AJR3,1,76 Whereas, Mr. Lien served in the 32nd Infantry Division of the Wisconsin
7National Guard; and
AJR3,1,98 Whereas, Mr. Lien began his public career practicing law as a Chippewa County
9court commissioner and also as an attorney for the City of Bloomer; and
AJR3,1,1310 Whereas, Mr. Lien was elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1962 to represent
11Chippewa County and served in the 1963 session, where he was a member of the
12assembly committees on elections and on judiciary and of the Legislative Council
13Special Committee on Election Laws; and
AJR3,2,214 Whereas, upon leaving the legislature, Mr. Lien spent 25 years engaged in
15lobbying and governmental affairs as executive director of the Wisconsin Merchants

1Federation, governmental affairs director for the State Medical Society of Wisconsin,
2and director of governmental affairs for the State Bar of Wisconsin; and
AJR3,2,43 Whereas, in the latter part of his life he owned and operated a travel agency
4in DeForest and was involved in community affairs; now, therefore, be it
AJR3,2,8 5Resolved by theassembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
6Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Edgar E. Lien
7contributed to this state and its citizens, express their sorrow at his death, and
8extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR3,2,12 9Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
10resolution to Mr. Lien's wife, Joanne; to his children, Erik of Chicago and Jennifer
11of Madison; to his brother, Bruce of Denver; and his stepsisters, Carol Brugman of
12Oconomowoc and Sally Adams of Beaver Dam.
