AJR61,1,32 Whereas, John Quentin Radcliffe was born on May 19, 1920, in Little Falls,
3Wisconsin, and died on August 19, 2001, in Osseo, Wisconsin; and
AJR61,1,54 Whereas, he was educated at Black River Falls Elementary School and Tony
5High School; and
AJR61,1,76 Whereas, John married Ione Gunderson on June 29, 1940, in Black River Falls,
7Wisconsin; and
AJR61,1,98 Whereas, during World War II, Mr. Radcliffe served in the U.S. Navy aboard a
9PT boat in Espirtu Santos, New Hebrides; and
AJR61,1,1110 Whereas, after his military service, Mr. Radcliffe was employed by the Gillette
11tire company, retiring from the Uniroyal tire company after 24 years of service; and
AJR61,1,1212 Whereas, John served on the Eleva-Strum school board; and
AJR61,1,1513 Whereas, he was elected to the Wisconsin assembly representing Jackson and
14Trempealeau counties in 1964 and served continuously from the 1965 through 1971
15sessions; and

1Whereas, during his tenure in the assembly, Mr. Radcliffe was instrumental in
2the development of the K.I.S.S. (Keeping Infants in Safety Seats) program, and
3co-drafted the first legislation in the nation for the testing of newborns for PKU
4(phenylketonuria); and
AJR61,2,75 Whereas, John resigned from the assembly on January 19, 1971, to accept an
6appointment by Governor Patrick Lucey to head the governor's office of highway
7safety coordination; and
AJR61,2,108 Whereas, John was elected to the executive board of the national conference of
9governor's highway safety representatives representing the states of Illinois,
10Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; and
AJR61,2,1311 Whereas, although John retired from state government in 1978, he remained
12active in local leadership as the mayor of Strum and served 6 consecutive terms on
13the Trempealeau County board; now, therefore, be it
AJR61,2,17 14Resolved by the assembly assembly senate concurring, That the members
15of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that John Quentin
16Radcliffe contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his
17death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
AJR61,2,22 18Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
19resolution to Mr. Radcliffe's wife, Ione; his son, Jack Radcliffe, Viroqua, Wisconsin;
20and his 4 daughters, Karen Rocksvold, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Sue Ann
21Miland, Eleva, Wisconsin, Kathleen Sheldon, Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Lisa
22Lorenz, Morris, Minnesota.
