2its bicentennial anniversary.
AJR87,1,53 Whereas, the United States Military Academy at West Point was established
4by an 1802 Act of Congress and is celebrating its 200th anniversary on March 16,
52002; and
AJR87,1,96 Whereas, the United States Military Academy at West Point was the first
7national education institution in the country and the mission of the United States
8Military Academy at West Point continues to be to educate, train, and inspire a corps
9of cadets; and
AJR87,1,1210 Whereas, the United States Military Academy at West Point has graduated
11thousands of Americans as commissioned officers who have led the U.S. Army in
12winning in war and preserving peace; and
AJR87,1,1513 Whereas, the United States Military Academy at West Point trains cadets
14committed to the values reflective of the Academy's motto — Duty, Honor, Country
15— to serve a selfless lifetime to the nation; and

1Whereas, Wisconsin citizens have successfully graduated throughout the noble
2history of the academy and are committed to military duty and graciously render
3their service to the American people; and
AJR87,2,64 Whereas, West Point continues to ensure that all programs and policies support
5the needs of the U.S. Army and nation today and for our security in the future; now,
6therefore, be it
AJR87,2,10 7Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
8Wisconsin legislature commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the United States
9Military Academy at West Point, express their congratulations, and commend the
10academy for its contributions; and, be it further
AJR87,2,14 11Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
12resolution to Jay O'Brien, member of the House of Delegates, Commonwealth of
13Virginia, so that he may present the joint resolution to the United States Military
14Academy at West Point on March 16, 2002.
