AR42,1,2 Relating to: memorializing Congress to enact the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act of 2001.

AR42,1,5 Whereas, the emergence of the Internet as a means of communication has profoundly influenced our society and will pave the way for the global marketplace; and

AR42,1,8 Whereas, Wisconsin is one of only 8 states that impose a sales tax on Internet access, thereby putting Wisconsin companies that conduct business over the Internet at a competitive disadvantage; and

AR42,1,12 Whereas, the Wisconsin state legislature has previously voted to repeal the state's sales tax on Internet access thus demonstrating its commitment to making sure that Wisconsin is on the leading edge of this new technology and providing incentives for even more access and creative use of the Internet; and

AR42,2,2 Whereas, H.R. 1552, which is entitled the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act of 2001, has been introduced in the United States house of representatives and subsequently approved by the house subcommittee on commercial and administrative law; and

AR42,2,6 Whereas, the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act of 2001 would extend the moratorium on multiple or discrimatory taxes on electronic commerce through 2006 and repeal the authority of states and their political subdivisions to impose taxes on Internet access; now, therefore, be it

AR42,2,9 Resolved by the assembly, That the assembly of the state of Wisconsin urges the president and Congress to enact the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act of 2001; and, be it further

AR42,2,12 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to the President of the United States, to each member of the Wisconsin congressional delegation, and to each member of the U.S. senate and house commerce committees.
