AR42,1,2 1Relating to: memorializing Congress to enact the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination
2Act of 2001.
AR42,1,53 Whereas, the emergence of the Internet as a means of communication has
4profoundly influenced our society and will pave the way for the global marketplace;
5and
AR42,1,86 Whereas, Wisconsin is one of only 8 states that impose a sales tax on Internet
7access, thereby putting Wisconsin companies that conduct business over the Internet
8at a competitive disadvantage; and
AR42,1,129 Whereas, the Wisconsin state legislature has previously voted to repeal the
10state's sales tax on Internet access thus demonstrating its commitment to making
11sure that Wisconsin is on the leading edge of this new technology and providing
12incentives for even more access and creative use of the Internet; and
AR42,2,213 Whereas, H.R. 1552, which is entitled the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act
14of 2001, has been introduced in the United States house of representatives and

1subsequently approved by the house subcommittee on commercial and
2administrative law; and
AR42,2,63 Whereas, the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act of 2001 would extend the
4moratorium on multiple or discrimatory taxes on electronic commerce through 2006
5and repeal the authority of states and their political subdivisions to impose taxes on
6Internet access; now, therefore, be it
AR42,2,9 7Resolved by the assembly, That the assembly of the state of Wisconsin urges
8the president and Congress to enact the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act of 2001;
9and, be it further
AR42,2,12 10Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution
11to the President of the United States, to each member of the Wisconsin congressional
12delegation, and to each member of the U.S. senate and house commerce committees.
