SB190,1,2 An Act to repeal 118.045 (3); and to amend 118.045 (1) of the statutes; relating to: the commencement of the school term.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Current law prohibits a school district from beginning the school term until September 1 unless the school board holds a public hearing on the issue and adopts a resolution to that effect. This bill eliminates this exception.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SB190, s. 1 Section 1. 118.045 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:

SB190,1,5 118.045 (1) Except as provided in subs. sub. (2) and (3), beginning in the year 2000, no public school may commence the school term until September 1.

SB190, s. 2 Section 2. 118.045 (3) of the statutes is repealed.

SB190, s. 3 Section 3. Initial applicability.

SB190,2,2 (1) This act first applies to the commencement of the school term beginning after the effective date of this subsection.
