SB344,1,2 1An Act to create 36.11 (45) of the statutes; relating to: development of a tribal
2logo for notification of state grants funded by Indian gaming receipts.

This bill requires the Robert M. La Follette institute of public affairs at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison, in consultation with American Indian tribes in
Wisconsin, to develop a representative tribal logo for use on state notifications of
grants funded by Indian gaming receipts and a plan to implement use of the logo and
to submit the logo and plan to the joint committee on finance for approval.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB344, s. 1 3Section 1. 36.11 (45) of the statutes is created to read:
SB344,1,84 36.11 (45) Development of tribal logo. (a) The board shall ensure that the

6Wisconsin-Madison, in consultation with the governing bodies of federally
7recognized American Indian tribes and bands in this state, develops all of the
8following:

11. A tribal logo that is representative of federally recognized American Indian
2tribes and bands in this state and that would be appropriate for display on official
3state notifications of grants funded in whole or in part by Indian gaming receipts, as
4defined in s. 569.01 (1m).
SB344,2,75 2. A plan to implement the use of the logo, including ways to determine when
6the logo should be used, the cost of developing and using the logo, and how this cost
7would be funded.
SB344,2,188 (b) The board shall submit the logo and the plan under par. (a) to the joint
9committee on finance and to the governing body of each federally recognized
10American Indian tribe and band in this state. If the cochairpersons of the committee
11do not notify the board that the committee has scheduled a meeting to review the logo
12and the plan within 14 working days after the date of submission, use of the logo may,
13upon approval of the governing body of each tribe and band, be implemented as
14proposed in the plan. If, within 14 working days after the date of the submission, the
15cochairpersons of the committee notify the board that the committee has scheduled
16a meeting for the purpose of reviewing the logo and plan, use of the logo may be
17implemented only upon approval of the committee and the governing body of each
18tribe and band.
