2001 Senate JOINT RESOLUTION 34

SJR34,1,1 Relating to: the life and public service of Richard B. Kuzminski.

SJR34,1,3 Whereas, Richard B. Kuzminski was born on November 25, 1929, in Cudahy, Wisconsin, and passed away on March 25, 2001, in Milwaukee; and

SJR34,1,5 Whereas, he graduated from South Milwaukee Senior High School and remained there to serve his community and raise his family with his wife Mary; and

SJR34,1,7 Whereas, he unselfishly served the citizens of South Milwaukee as an alderman for 16 years, including 6 years as common council president; and

SJR34,1,9 Whereas, he went on to serve the citizens of South Milwaukee and Cudahy as a Milwaukee County supervisor for 15 years; and

SJR34,1,12 Whereas, during these years of service he also ran his own real estate company, Mark Realty, which was aptly named for his family — Mary and Richard Kuzminski; and

SJR34,1,14 Whereas, in the early 1950s, he served in the U.S. Army and was a member of AMVETS, PLAV, and the Catholic War Vets; and

SJR34,2,2 Whereas, he was also an active member of the South Milwaukee Lions Club and St. Mary's Catholic Church in South Milwaukee; and

SJR34,2,4 Whereas, after experiencing heart failure in 1992, he was the recipient of a heart transplant and became a spokesperson for organ transplants; and

SJR34,2,6 Whereas, he continued to serve his constituency until his retirement in 1996; and

SJR34,2,9 Whereas, upon his retirement, he and Mary moved to their home on the Fox River in Waterford, where he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Kristin, Lauren, Preston, Leslie, Joshua, Sam, and Andrea; now, therefore, be it

SJR34,2,13 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the life of Richard B. Kuzminski as a shinning example of public service in the best tradition of Wisconsin and mourn his passing; and, be it further

SJR34,2,18 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. Kuzminski's wife, Mary, to his children, Bruce Kuzminski of Olepha, Kansas, Cindy Kuzminski of Milwaukee, Lisa Moen of Deerfield, and Lynn Dumais of Broomfield, Colorado, and to his sister, Dolores Tolkacz of St. Francis, and brother, Robert Kuzminski of Waterford.
