SJR42,1,32 Whereas, Jane Pettit passed away on September 10, 2001, after a courageous,
3year-long battle against lung cancer; and
SJR42,1,64 Whereas, although Jane Pettit has passed, her remarkable life, courageous
5spirit, and philanthropic generosity will be an inspiration for the entire state of
6Wisconsin for generations to come; and
SJR42,1,87 Whereas, the Pettit name has become synonymous with compassion and
8kindness thanks to years of charitable acts by Jane Pettit; and
SJR42,1,109 Whereas, Jane Pettit's generosity and greatness can be seen when reviewing
10her extraordinary legacy; and
SJR42,1,1211 Whereas, Jane Pettit endowed a floor at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin
12in 1987; and
SJR42,1,1413 Whereas, Jane Pettit's generosity led to the construction and opening of the
14Bradley Center in Milwaukee in 1988; and

1Whereas, Jane Pettit provided funding for the neonatal care unit at St. Joseph's
2Hospital in 1991; and
SJR42,2,63 Whereas, Jane Pettit's donation to the Pettit National Ice Center in West Allis
4has provided the United States olympic speed skating team with a world renowned
5training facility, and has given residents of the Milwaukee area a first class skating
6facility available for public use; and
SJR42,2,107 Whereas, Jane Pettit made numerous donations to the Milwaukee Arts
8Museum, including the purchase of several paintings by internationally acclaimed
9artist Georgia O'Keefe in 1997, and contributions to the building campaign that
10assisted in the construction of the museum's recently opened Calatrava addition; and
SJR42,2,1211 Whereas, Jane Pettit's ongoing support for the Great Circus Parade helped
12keep this Wisconsin tradition a success; and
SJR42,2,1513 Whereas, Jane Pettit became a part owner of the Milwaukee Brewers in 1999,
14continuing a tradition of local ownership of Wisconsin's major league baseball team;
15and
SJR42,2,1916 Whereas, Jane Pettit in the year 2000 supported Alverno College, Mount Mary
17College, Messmer High School, the Schlitz Audubon Center, Boerner Botanical
18Gardens, the proposed African American World Cultural Center, and the Wisconsin
19AIDS fund; and
SJR42,2,2120 Whereas, Jane Pettit's donation of $20,000,000 led to the construction of the
21Lynde and Harry Bradley School of Technology and Trade in Milwaukee; and
SJR42,2,2322 Whereas, Jane Pettit devoted her life to philanthropy, the arts, and improving
23the quality of life in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin; and
SJR42,2,2524 Whereas, Jane Pettit's generosity leaves a long and proud legacy that will not
25be forgotten by those whose lives she has touched; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
2Wisconsin legislature commend Jane Pettit for her philanthropy, her generosity
3towards the arts, and her efforts to improve the quality of life in Milwaukee and
4throughout Wisconsin; express their sorrow at her death; and extend condolences to
5her family and friends; and, be it further
SJR42,3,7 6Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
7resolution to Jane Pettit's daughter, Lynde, and son, David Jr.
