AB895,1,2 1An Act to amend 39.435 (3) of the statutes; relating to: the maximum amount
2of a Wisconsin higher education grant.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Higher Educational Aids Board awards Wisconsin
higher education grants (WHEG grants) to undergraduates enrolled at least half
time at nonprofit public institutions of higher education or tribally controlled
colleges in this state. Currently, a WHEG grant may not exceed $2,500 for any
academic year. This bill increases that maximum grant amount to $3,000 for any
academic year.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB895, s. 1 3Section 1. 39.435 (3) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB895,2,34 39.435 (3) Grants under sub. (1) shall not be less than $250 during any one
5academic year, unless the joint committee on finance approves an adjustment in the
6amount of the minimum grant. Grants under sub. (1) shall not exceed $2,500 $3,000

1during any one academic year. The board shall, by rule, establish a reporting system
2to periodically provide student economic data and shall promulgate other rules the
3board deems necessary to assure uniform administration of the program.

AB895,2,75 (1) Wisconsin higher education grants. The treatment of section 39.435 (3)
6of the statutes first applies to Wisconsin higher education grants awarded by the
7Higher Educational Aids Board for the 2006-07 academic year.
