AJR5,1,32 Whereas, Alex C. Ruffing was born on November 2, 1892, in Milwaukee,
3Wisconsin, and died on September 6, 1958, in Milwaukee; and
AJR5,1,54 Whereas, Mr. Ruffing was a toolmaker at the Milwaukee Die Casting Company
5and member of the machinists union; and
AJR5,1,76 Whereas, he was a member of the executive board and past state chairman of
7the Wisconsin Socialist Party; and
AJR5,1,98 Whereas, Mr. Ruffing was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1918,
9serving in the 1919 through 1925 sessions; and
AJR5,1,1110 Whereas, he was subsequently elected to the Wisconsin senate in 1926, serving
11in the 1927 session; and
AJR5,1,1312 Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Ruffing was a member of the
13Joint Committee on Finance; and
AJR5,1,1514 Whereas, Mr. Ruffing sponsored labor legislation and a pension law for the
15blind; and

1Whereas, after leaving the legislature, he served as a Milwaukee alderman
2from 1928 until 1944; and
AJR5,2,53 Whereas, Mr. Ruffing served as chairman of the Milwaukee city election
4commission from 1945 to 1949 when he became a city annexation solicitor until 1957;
5now, therefore be it
AJR5,2,10 6Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That despite the passage
7of many years, the members of the Wisconsin legislature find it fitting to commend
8the devoted public service that Alex C. Ruffing contributed to this state and his
9community and recognize his accomplishments as a legislator and a citizen; and be
10it further
AJR5,2,12 11Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
12resolution to Mr. Ruffing's family.
